Clean-up in progress
💚 Our everyday actions are destroying the environment and threatening humanity's future. We have a few practical tips and inspiring hope for a sustainable future. Read On 🌍
Our relentless pursuit of progress has cost our environment significantly in recent decades. Degradation of natural ecosystems, pollution of air and water, and climate change are not just environmental issues—they are existential threats. As a result of our actions, the environment is being destroyed, putting humanity's future at risk.
from Nick
Our environment is a precious and delicate thing that we must protect and do our best to keep clean and healthy. It is in our own best interests to ensure that the
air is clean, the land and water free of contaminates and toxins and that we strive to maintain environmental conditions that are as close to natural as possible. But as I said already, by destroying the Environment, we destroy ourselves.
It only makes sense to adopt an attitude such as this one because a polluted and dirty environment can be
deadly to humans and present dangers to civilization. For these two reasons alone, the people of the world should unite for a cleaner and healthier planet Earth. After all, by destroying the environment, we destroy ourselves
Even if you are someone that does not care that our carelessness and industrialization is destroying habitats, killing animal, insect and plant life and driving species into
extinction because of our pollution and chemicals being dumped in once pristine areas. Even if you do not care at all about life other than human life, you should still demand that companies implement green technology and individuals practice a policy of protectionism.
A cleaner place - We should be protecting our planet from harm, not harming it by poisoning it with chemicals, toxins and other industrial pollutants. We only have one home, so why should we be so careless with it? What about our children and what about their children? What will their environment look and smell like?
Pet Peeve - What really angers me is that this is all possible. We can, and to some extent we have, leave the planet cleaner today than it was yesterday. Through government initiatives and mandates, through environmentally-friendly business practices and through public and individual activism in favor of a cleaner planet, progress has been made, but there is still so much more work to do.
Everyone needs to get involved and join together to convey a clear and passionate message. I really cannot stand how people just disrespect the planet by littering or people that put profit over the environment.
I do not have a problem with profit, not at all, as long as I
see a company is making a sincere effort and noticeable progress in minimizing damage to the environment.
I also wish that people would discard the attitude that someone else will solve the problem of pollution or leave the problem for the next generation to solve. There are too many people that think this way.
If more people were willing to stand up, dedicate some of their time and become involved, we would be able to make incredible progress in cleaning up the land, the sky and the ocean before more life is destroyed or negatively impacted. By ignoring the problem or leaving it for others to solve, we are only endangering ourselves because we can get sick and die from a polluted environment just like the animals, insects and plant life.
Not beyond hope
Although there has been damage to the environment that cannot ever be repaired as life has been lost due to pollutions and improper chemical disposal, we can prevent more life from being claimed by a dirty and deadly environment. This is not a problem that lacks a solution.
We have solutions today, and while they are good and
promising solutions, we must continue to research new ideas and new perspectives and we must continue to welcome new people into the discussion. We must also do whatever it takes to convince other countries to join with us and commit to a cleaner, healthier and more beautiful tomorrow.
Who can Help? - We will only be able to clean up the environments of the world if the nations of the world can agree that this problem is real and needs to be addressed. The message needs to be conveyed to the people, to business and to government and if enough people here and adopt the message, then positive change can emerge and small steps can be taken.
Small steps that will then hopefully lead to larger steps. It can be done. It needs to be done.
Barry's Response
- Well put, Nick. Gang, shall we get together and
clean up this place? We need to clean up the Earth's atmosphere to preserve the health of our planet and ensure the well-being of future generations. How? Getting rid of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide to slow the climate change process as projected should help somewhat.
It's relatively simple to use renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and hydropower as they become more practical. Fossil fuels are a well-cited cause greenhouse gas emissions. Use
energy-efficient technology, keep developing sustainable agriculture, rely less on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and keep an eye on new technologies.
Encourage people to adopt environmentally friendly practices. With advancing cooperation and effort from individuals, organizations, and governments, we'll get this licked.
How to Reduce Environmental Harm
...of various types:
- Our workplace has three types of harm: Excessive Energy Use: Leaving lights, computers, and other equipment on when not in use, Paper Waste: Not recycling paper, and Pollution: Facilities that emit pollutants.
- Turn off the lights and equipment when you're not using them. Go digital whenever you can. Print double-sided and recycle paper at work to reduce emissions
- Water Waste at home: Long showers, running taps, and inefficient appliances. Plastic Waste: Single-use plastics like bags, bottles, and packaging. Energy Waste: Excessive energy usage.
- Use shorter showers, fix leaks, and use water-saving appliances, Reducing Plastic Use: Use reusable bags, bottles, and containers, Avoid excessive packaging, and Energy Efficiency: Use energy-efficient appliances, insulate your home, and switch to LEDs.
- When we travel, shop, whatever, we can cause harm by Carbon Emissions: Driving cars, flying, and using fossil fuels, Overconsumption: Buying more than we need, causing waste, and Littering: Improperly disposing of waste.
- You can take public transportation, carpool, bike, or walk, even once in a while for kicks. Eco-friendly travel options, Mindful Shopping: Buying only what you need, choosing sustainable products, and supporting eco-friendly brands, and Proper Waste Disposal: Recycling, composting, and disposing of waste properly. Get involved in community clean-ups.
