The solutions to global warming
Barry's Response - They're all listed here, aren't they. This diagram, commonly called a mind map, covers the
Classic points
Travel - avoiding bad travel means don't fly, but best travel includes walking using fuel efficient cars and car pooling, keeping tires filled every week, walking, biking and taking public transit.
At home - using green power helps, and so does using efficient light bulbs and appliances, turning off appliances and electronic devices at the power point instead of using stand-by, drying clothes on a line instead of a dryer, and using a solar water heater reduces cost, energy consumption and greenhouse gas contributions.
Grocery strategies include - buying locally produced items, buying fresh rather than frozen, buying at farmers markets. Eat less meat, as meat is a lower-value usage of our environmental resources.
Other methods of conservation include - using less stuff in general. Shopping with reusable bags, recycling and reusing goods in any way and buying recycled paper, cancelling junk mail keeping family sizes small all amount to using less. Buy from
firms with strong environmental commitments and policies.
How to Have a Social Effect
Plant trees, be a strong example for others, be a catalyst, be an influence amongst your friends, vote conscientiously with environmental issues in mind, taking stock and having an energy audit of your life.
All these solutions probably sound familiar to you:
- Get out and walk
- Catch and eat crickets
- Like your grandmother, hang your clothes to dry.
- Stop breathing, you're exhaling CO2.
Let's pause for a breather. What if the Earth isn't a fragile egg about to crack, but a dynamic, self-regulating beast that's seen worse than your Netflix binge?
7000 years ago, the Sahara was lush grassland. Now it's a tanning salon for camels. SUVs probably weren't an influence. That's orbital wobble, Milankovitch cycles, precession, axial tilt, and eccentricity. Earth doing Pilates.
Understanding your problem is the first step. One might say climate variability is a feature, not a flaw. We can look at more than CO2. It includes solar cycles, ocean currents, surface albedo, volcano eruptions, and the jet stream. There's a lot of underplaying of non-anthropogenic drivers. Why? They don't fit neatly into narratives.
Let's have fun
🙃 But we'll also be serious. What about climate change instead of global warming? If you name the enemy too specifically, people might check the thermometer and say, "Wait... it's snowing."
We're told to worry about 1.1°C rise over 150 years, but Canadian cities swing 40°C every year. Edmonton doesn't burn every July (though nearby Jasper did once). It's all about context.
Even the Bible talks about stewardship and caring. The earth isn't our god. We care about it because we're grateful. The best stewardship isn't control, but adaptability, resilience, and humility.
Counter-Narrative vs. Denial.
It pays to examine:
- Skepticism about corruption funding
- An analysis of groupthink
- Historical patterns
- Don't follow the trending hashtags, follow the truth
Literature, myth, and culture suggest we're flying too close to the sun-not because of heat, but because of hubris. According to indigenous knowledge, balance is more important than control. In Japan, "Wabi-sabi" values nature's impermanence. To the Greeks, kairos - the right moment - matters more than chronos - the ticking clock.
I'll leave you with this
Global warming might roast us like chestnuts. Before saving the planet, maybe we should ask “From what?” Everything changes. It's just the weather, nothing personal.
